This applies to all Italian espresso machine and grinder
manufacturers. What happens is that sometimes in the hand assembly of
espresso machines and coffee grinders, an o-ring or screw will fall
inside the casing. The production line worker will usually (from my
understanding) make one attempt to retrieve it. If not, it stays
inside. Sometimes, in shipping, the o-ring or screw comes out and is
visible in the box when opened.

As for the charred metal that came out of the grinder, this was most
likely a screw or piece of metal that arrived within a package of
coffee beans. It is important to watch the coffee beans when they
enter the grinder's bean hopper. The largest culprits of burr damage
are screws and nails which all roasters whould remove from their green
beans before roasting.

As previously stated, it is great to hear that things worked out, and
thank you for selecting 1st-line Equipment for the burr replacement.
