I don't know Tex. That looks like a solution looking for a problem.
You
still end up with grinds all over the place even though they are on a
paper
towel at the end. You also have to remove and reinstall the filter
into the
portafilter handle. Seems like a pain to me.

Ayuh. And if you've properly preheated the portafilter group beforehand,
that
basket's gonne be HOT!

Wow, how could such a simple thing be so controversial. Oh well. I
haven't looked at that video, but the stainless steel canning funnel
that I have fits absolutely perfectly right into the top of my double
basket which is sitting in the bottomless portafilter. The grinds
come out the bottom of the now dozerless MD-50 into a small dish, and
then I pour that directly through the metal funnel into the double
basket which is preheated and sitting in the portafitler. With a
couple of knocks, every (EVERY) grind is in the basket and within the
edges so that tamping is a cinch. I have no idea what the Weiss tamp
is, but my tamp works perfectly when the grounds are all just
perfectly confined by the slim edge of the canning funnel. This makes
less mess than I have ever made before trying to fill the basket.

I dunno. I was using this method even before I saw Tex's posts. And
I thought it was a slam dunk. I do think the stainless funnel is
worth looking for though: no cutting, since the lip is already only
about 1/2" and the metal itself is probably a smoother and smaller
gauge surface between the edge of the basket and the grinds.

I use a different method. I have some small stainless steel cannisters that
I purchased from Lee Valley Tools http://tinyurl.com/3x6tmk

I weigh my beans before I put then in the grinder hopper. I then dose the
grind into a stainless steel container. Put the lid on and shake. I then
invert the cannister into the portafilter and level with my index finger and
tamp. This has the advantage of keeping the portafilter hot also. Pictures
