With the marked downturn in people frequenting alt.coffee, will there
be an altie gathering of some sort this year? I think it would fun to
attend the convention, but it is an industry trade show and I would
not want to get in the way of people who are there because their
livelyhood depends upon it. The only reason I am considering it
this year is because it is nearby. I have been thinking I should see
if I can obtain a floor show pass and wander about and gawk at all of
the shiny objects.

Yes, you should, especially if you've never attended before. Just
remember the people at the show booths have paid a lot of money to
sell to the trade, and try not to get in the way when a prospect walks
up. The Barista Guild Booth is a lot of fun, and they are usually
pulling free shots from top blends. Of course, you will also bump into
a lot of people who you might only know from the Internet.
A floor pass will also get you into the World Barista Championship,
the opening ceremonies (and keynote speech) and the opening night
reception (usually lots of good food).

On the SCAA site there are listed 1,2 or 3 day floors passes, priced
between $75 and $35. Is that what I am looking for? Does one need to
be an SCAA member to get a floor pass?
