difference in super auto trim levels

This one goes out to DaveB.

First off, I use an Expobar and Mazzer, so this question is not about
me.

My father-in-law wants a machine to make Americanos and cappucinos,
and he has decided to get a super-auto. He tells me that he can't
tell much difference between a decent shot and a great shot, so I
suspect that the super-auto may work for him.

I've been trying to help him decide between a Saeco and a Gaggia. I
understand that they are owned by the same company and they share some
or most internals.

So, what really distinguishes each manufacturers' trim levels? Saeco
has the Odea line for $500-700, then they have the Incanto line, and
also the Taleo for over $1000. So, what really is the difference
between them other than aesthetics?

Gaggia has the Syncrony, the Compact, etc. What is the difference
between them other than aesthetics?

Finally, one last question. How important is a bypass doser? Seems
the Gaggias all have them, and only the really expensive Saecos.

Thanks,
.
