apart from the expected business benefits of relocation beyond the
confines of an enclosed mall, there have been several "quality of
life" benefits, as well.

the first really noticeable one was sunsets. we have an excellent
view of the western sky, and have enjoyed numerous gorgeous sunsets.

tonight, however, i think we've got the first really unexpected
benefit. if it is a benefit....

there is a white swan hunkered down in the snow about 25 ft from our
shop. he'd been across the street earlier in the day, out in the
field in front of the church. several folks had tried to catch him,
without even coming close to success. i'm not sure why these folks
feel obligated to bother this critter. anyway, he migrated across the
road this evening, stopping traffic in the falling snow, and took up
residence in our parking lot. a little while later, a couple of guys
in a pickup truck decided they should pull into the lot and try to "do
something" for this swan. i stuck my head out the door and asked them
to leave him alone, as various people had been trying to catch him all
day ("he's faster than you are. you haven't a chance."). all they
managed to do was drive him closer to the building.

i wonder if it likes coffee.

i hope he's gone by morning. they can be mean cusses, and i don't
need him bothering the customers.
