I know it is late in your day! Of course I love birds and would adore
to have a swan around here, but alas they never made the trans-Pacific
flight as other birds did- 2800 miles. My suggestion is to call your
local Humane Society. They know what to do and handle all sorts of
issues like this. (My sister runs the Humane Society on Oahu and I
hear many tales with happy endings.)
unlike many others around here, apparently, i don't consider wayward
wildlife to be automatically in need of an "intervention". he was
visiting, and not causing any problems. yet, there seems to have been
an inordinate number of people who insisted on "helping" him by
disturbing his naps and forcing him to relocate every time they
violated his space. i lost count of the number of people who wanted
to put a blanket on him because "he must be cold." an animal rescue
group was called yesterday and they only succeeded in providing about
a half hour's entertainment by chasing him back and forth across the
field on the other side of the street, in a driving snowstorm. "uh,
guys, he has wings." this was no small swan, either. his web track
in the snow measures 7 inches wide, and i'd estimate his wingspan at
about 8 ft.
anyway, someone pestered him enough this afternoon that he ended up in
the field behind our building and then he got so fed up he flew away.
