Quoth "Mike G" <info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>:
| Dan, when will you be in UW territory? I will be working at Trabant
| (website posted below) this Saturday and Sunday until early evening.
| 45th & University Way just past American Apparel.
|
| The beatnik spot mentioned a few posts ago is Cafe Allegro, more or
| less a Seattle landmark, billing itself as Seattle's oldest espresso
| bar and having ties with Howard Schultz in the early days.
My first espresso, something like 1983 - went in with someone, asked
for coffee and they informed me that they served only espresso at that
establishment. It was OK, but according to my recollection, by our
more stringent standards, it was not espresso.
Trabant is my pick, too. No second pick.
| And Bronwyn Serna is currently working 3 miles or so away from UW at a
| new restaurant called Sitka and Spruce. She made me fabulous espresso
| yesterday!
That's interesting. Today's PI said you'd better plan on standing in
line at that restaurant, because if they aren't already swamped they
will be when people find out.
There's a Neapolitan style pizza place on Stone Way, Tutta Bella,
ca. 2 miles west of UW, take Metro 44 to Stone Way and walk 2 blocks
south, that serves drinkable little espressos. I'm sure they won't
be any serious competition to Sitka & Spruce in either cuisine or
espresso, but it's just interesting that this is going on - decent
espresso with dinner. I think it's a terrific development, a way
around the latte thing towards more awareness of what plain espresso
has to offer.
