Re: How Much Espresso (or Crema)

A given amount (mass) of coffee has a finite amount of caffeine in it.
Espresso extraction will remove more of that then most any other
brewing method.
Are you sure?
Many references indicate espresso has less caffeine because the brew
time is so short.
From http://www.scaa.org/pdfs/Press-Specialty-Coffee-True-False.pdf"Generally, a serving of drip coffee has more
caffeine than a shot of espresso. In fact, in the
espresso brewing method, water is in contact
with the grounds for only 20-25 seconds and
therefore extracts less caffeine than methods in
which the water is in contact with the grounds
for several minutes."
Please correct me if I've been laboring under a misinformation all
these years.

did not specify whether you were using a single or double filter

"espresso" with a single basket, then that would be a fairly
low-quality beverage.
It looks like it *may* be a double basket and I am making somewhere
around 4 ounces with it. I will try stopping it around 3 ounces. I

However, that is diverging from the topic. I was really just curious
if I was taking in the caffeine equivalent of two doubleshots, or
whatever.
The amount of caffeine depends on a lot of things such as the beans
used, how they are ground, how they are roasted, the extraction
process itself, and more. Your body and the way it reacts are the best
indicators without doing lab tests on the coffee. If you react
negatively it is your body's way of telling you to stop.

Espresso extraction will remove more of that then most any other
brewing method. Although a steam powered machine will not extract as
thoroughly as a pump driven machine (because of the laws of physics
steam pressure cannot develop to as high of a level as a pump can).,
it still will force more caffeine from the coffee than using a
pour-over.
