Could anyone absolutely verify that there's supposed to be a gasket in
this model? I clean the head regularly, but there's nary a sign of a
gasket that I can see - it's portafilter metal mating to group head
metal. I can't recall seeing a gasket laying around either, so I'm not
sure what happened to it if there was one. If I am missing the gasket,
a trip to Gaggia-land to visit their parts department would definitely
be in order.

I don't know of an espresso machine that doesn't have a grouphead gasket,
and all the Gaggia machines I've seen have one.

Does the portafilter feel firm when you mate it up? If so there must be a
gasket in there, if there was no gasket it would just flop around and water
would not come through the puck at all but just run down the side. If you
look at the grouphead if it is fairly level all round the outside where the
portafilter mates that is the gasket. If there is a ruddy great trench, it
is missing. Be aware that old gaskets can go the colour of tarnished metal
and as sure as hell feel like it!
