That's what I am doing right now with my Gaggia double pump mod to
regulate the pump pressure down. But I know that it exists a better
regulation by modifying the pump pulse (frequency). I am not too
involved in electronics and had that Krups Nova espresso maker working
audibly with two different pump pulses in brew and steam modes. As I
had problems with the steam pressure after 10 years of uninterrupted
use, I looked inside. An electronic board was there to control the 15
bar pump and fortunately for me easily adjustable. The technique behind
the system was to run slowed water into the thermoblock to allow the
transformation to steam. Later I noticed that Braun/Oral-B used the
same technique for the pressure regulation of their "oral irrigator".
