Drive-through update


Okay girls and boys, its time again for the annual update on the fabled drive through project here at Milagro Coffee y Espresso. After moving around $10,000 worth of dirt and laying some asphalt and concrete curbs and building an obnoxiously large (4'x45'x3') flower box we were ready to have the openings cut for the two windows. About 5 weeks ago. The wall turned out to be more than the standard 8" cinder block. It is a 12" cinder block wall. With #5 (5/8") AND 1" rebar in cross lay after which they filled the friggin' wall with concrete. So the standard masonry saws didn't work. We found a guy with a big ICS saw which is a 14" plunge, water-cooled high speed chain saw. The chain is diamond impregnated and runs around $500 and they charge by the .001th inch of wear. After breaking the saw twice, the owner of the saw hasn't been back for 3weeks. I went up to Truth or Consequences where I'd reserved the same model. When I got there last Friday the guy was showing me how the thing operated and it broke the clutch in front of us. The original saw man was supposed to be in Monday this week to finish. He hasn't come in yet. I've called him twice every day. He came by today and said his daughter is in the hospital and he will be in first thing in the morning. It has become a giant pain in the ass. I'm doing much of the landscaping myself which is theraputic. So, girls and boys, thats the annual update on a project that should have taken no more than two weeks and is now in month 5 and almost double the budgeted amount. The upside is that the customers have become totally engaged in the soap opera.
