Is it really important /needed to adjust grind with Mazzer Mini without coffee in it ?

In the manual of my Mazzer Mini E I read that the grind should be adjusted
with the motor running and preferably without coffee between the blades. Is
that really important ? If so, it seems a little complicated to me, because
then I always have to empty it before adjusting. And why has the motor to be
running ?
