Do Brita/Pur filters remove calcium/lime?

I've read the Insanely Long Water FAQ three times, the last time being about
six months ago. I just don't remember the answer to this question. I'm
thinking of switching from a combo of RO/Purified and store-bought Spring
Water, to a combo of RO/Purified and pitcher-filtered water (mainly for
environmental reasons, and secondly for cost and convenience). I know a
Brita or PUR will filter out some of the chlorine and yukky tastes of my
extremely-high-level-mineral-alkaline Las Vegas undrinkable tap water, and
still leave in the vast majority of minerals, but I was wondering if I will
also remove any of the "bad" lime-scale minerals for the Giotto boiler.
Any chance Pur or Brita are better or worse in this regard?
Thanks in advance.
By the way, I admire the FAQ, and appreciate the work that went into it, but
I'm hoping that just because someone decides to do an "insanely long" FAQ,
this does not mean folks are supposed to refrain from ever asking a question
answered therein.
If that were true, I'd get to work on the "Insalely Long Gaggia versus
Silvia FAQ".
