When Verizon was selling the Unlimited plan I don't think they had any
'marketing fluff' that talked about limits. They really didn't want
folks to know that Unlimited didn't really mean unlimited. And the
large majority never found out because they never got close to 2G.

Course it's possible. It's the TOS that counts, not the plan name.
The best analogy I can think of is at my local 'all you can eat'
buffet. It has a sign at the door that basically says that each person
must have a plate. But invariably I see 'food hogs' trying to share a
plate. Those people who violate the restaurant rules and steal food
That's a failed analagy since unlimited means unlimited.
I think it's a great analogy. I'll carry it a little further. One guy
with one plate eats until he's full. Two guys on *one* plate eat twice
the food until their bellies are filled. If several people cheat like
this the buffet will have to supply more food and hire more staff.
One guy surfing on a smartphone only goes so long before he's tired of
looking at that dinky little screen. One guy with the phone tethered
to his 17'' laptop can surf for hours, download large files, ect. In
fact he's thinking of quitting his ISP and just using his phone.
Besides cheating Verizon out of the tethering fees he saves on ISP
charges as well. If a thousand Justins do this Verizon has to supply
more data, add more equipment, more staff, ect. ect.... ;)
It's EASY to go over 2GB of data on a phone. Using NO video.
Spoken like a true data hog... ;)
When all the advertising says you can do this, that and other other but
ignores that that and the other and even this would push you over some
imaginary line, it's bs
I agree with you that if they advertise Unlimited it should be. But it
ain't and never has been. That's moot now since there is no more (new
subscriber) Unlimited offered by Verizon. And of course the
grandfathered Unlimited could be withdrawn at any time though as I
said previously, it would change things for few subscribers.
BTW I got a letter from my ISP (Cox) last week saying that they are
instituting plan limits. For my plan the limit is 200G. They said "for
now" there will be no charge if I go over. I'm sure that that "no
charge for extra data" will change eventually. So I think that
unlimited anything is soon going to be a thing of the past...
