I am told.
The PHONE doesn't require a data plan. But VERIZON WIRELESS
requires that IF you have that phone, you buy a data plan from VZW.
More capitalist greed! Why can't I have a choice?
You do have a choice, a choice of phones and a choice of service
providers. You can sell or discard the phone you were given. Verizon
wireless is not the only provider, just the best and the most
expensive.
Talk to AT&T about their cellular service, the available phones, the
the provisions of their contract. Maybe they have something that will
meet your needs.
There are other service providers some of whom use Verizon Wireless'
network.
Good luck!
If someone gave me a Droid, I'd only have it about 2 weeks until I got
to play with it a bit. I'd never activate it. That's crazy at those
prices.
8Mbps internet off cable at my house is only $28.95/month and that
includes modem rental so when it blows up they fix it free.
Once I had my fun, I'd put the Droid on Ebay or Craigslist, probably the
latter as I get more local response, and dump it on someone.
