Plenty of folks find GPS on smartphones to be a very useful solution.

"smartphone" and that's what I have.
A RAZR V3M isn't a smartphone, it is about as dumb a phone as it is
possible to buy. In fact, come to think of it, it is dumber that most
dumb phones you can buy these days; a V3M is obsolete. My Nokia 6700
is a dumbphone according to the phone companies, but will still play
youtube videos and make a reasonable attempt at rendering full HTML web
pages.
I understand you like your V3M anyway but if you are judging smartphones
by your experience with that then I can see where your confusion lies.
