Re: Very Delayed Voicemail

Several times this year I have received voicemail messages that are
2-3 weeks old.

Fortunately none of them were emergencies . . . yet!

Several people have told me of similar experiences with VZW.

Anyone here experienced this problem?

Which model phone and how long have you had it?

Have you made any modifications to your account(s) lately? VZ has been known to violate the "it ain't broke so don't fix it" rule when making account changes.

If it's a new phone, it or some VZ config settings on your account may be the problem. Take it to a VZ store and hope they make it better and not worse.

If it's been a reliable unit for a longer period of time, there are a lot of possibilities:

In the phone itself, a config setting gone bad or not kept current - not likely but not impossible.

At VZ, a config setting gone bad, erroneously changed, or not kept current. Again, not likely but possible.

Something about the senders. Do you see any pattern in the delayed e-mails (the senders, their service providers, etc.)?

I only use my VZ phone to talk, so I'm not familiar with the network mechanisms for sending and receiving text and e-mail on a phone. However, I have VZ DSL. From time to time there are stretches when e-mail and newsgroup postings get delayed.

Sometimes I can force Windows Mail to download recent newsgroup postings that didn't immediately show, but sometimes stuff from weeks or months ago suddenly gets downloaded to my reader for no apparent reason. (Probably a server somewhere was reset.) The problem comes and goes for no apparent reason. Some of it obviously is related to the up-line mail and newsgroup servers (e.g., eternal-september.org). However, there's no way to tell if they were VZ server problems, or issues with the originating and intermediate servers.

I would think that at least some of my DSL problems have their parallels when it comes to cell phone e-mail.
