They are more phone than we really need though. We never "text".

Yes, but you do realize that your personal lack of adoption of the
new technology is reminiscent of the way the telephone was first
received by many people and the television after that. No offense
intended, but you are being sort of "old fashioned" in your
attitude. All new techno advances have met with initial
resistance by old-timers who thought the past was best and the
future is too much. The Razr is to cell phone use what the
original 9" b&w TV was to cable television. it's a different world
today.

Not a good comparison, rather think of the V3M as a printer that
prints. That's the most advance technology possible for one who
doesn't need a scanner, copier, fax machine. Combination units are
great for one who need all these capabilities but a complete waste for
one who only needs to print or, more importantly, who wants separate
devices for these functions, one who may need a fax but never a
scanner.

Similarly, smart phones are not in any way more advanced than old
models, the V9M (for example) is a superior phone to almost any smart
phone offered today in terms of voice clarity, etc. If you want a
phone, PDA, etc. smart phones are the way to go, if not, they're a
waste.

I can't say you're wrong. But we'll agree to disagree on this. Past
experience has taught us that people learn not only to adapt to new
technologies but to eventually become dependent on them. Twenty years ago
none of us 'needed' a cell phone at all. We all got by with phones only at
home. Now, not only does everyone have one, but they can't do without them.
I was driving somewhere with my GPS recently and found myself wondering how
I would have found this place before when GPS's didn't exist. But we did.
I'll bet you the OP uses his phone just for calls, true. But I'll also bet
you he's recently started using the speed dial buttons and/or the built in
phone book too. So he's not just using it for phone calls anymore, is he,
but partly as a PIM? I'll also bet you the OP has little pieces of paper in
his pockets from time-to-time reminding him of things he has to do or
someone's name, address or phone number.

Everyone can use the new technological stuff. It just depends partly as to
how far into denial one is about benefitting from it.

Sorry, I'll stand behind my original assessment.
