They don't make it hard to check the expiration dates. You can write it on your calendar, program a reminder into the calendar on your phone, check your account online, call them up to check it, or sign up at "http://www.rememberthemilk.com" and have reminders sent to your e-mail. You can also sign up for automatic refills, but you have to add a minimum of $10/month so it's not a great deal..
I once forgot to add money to my daughter's account in time. I called them up and they restored the balance. Very good customer service, based in the U.S..
