I've been with Verizon since Airtouch, I think with my account created in 97.
First phone, I THINK, was this...... http://www.energenix.com/qualcomm-QCP2700.jpg
What was yours?
Radio Shack branded CT-302 AMPS phone from GTE Mobilnet. The Radio Shack catalog page with it is at "http://i41.tinypic.com/mtum8j.jpg"
First real Verizon phone was the Motorola 270C.

I'll see your CT-302, and raise you the CT-300! ;-)
http://www.majhost.com/gallery/kl/rscat/rs1988/rs1988-002.jpg, Radioshack's Nokia-built ripoff of the Motorola "brick phone", complete with anemic, overheating battery that ran for nearly 8 hours before crapping out.
I bought it on clearance for $200, back in 1993, with a 90-day contract (yep, there were 90-day contracts back then!) with "First Cellular Omaha" (now part of Alltel.) $19.95/month got me 10 anytime minutes and $0.75 for each extra minute. If I'd signed the one year contract, I could've paid $14.95 instead of $19.95 for my ten minutes, but I knew I was moving to Kansas City in six months or so, so I opted for 90-days.
In KC, I bought the CT-351 (no direct URL, but if you go here: http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/catalogs/1994_small/ and go to page 80 it's on the left side) which was a little smaller than your 302, and had a data/fax interface. My first phone I ever "tethered" (just as a "proof of concept"- it was too expensive and slow to do regularly!)
As far as sound quality goes, it's all been downhill ever since! Nice fat analog FM blew away any TDMA, CDMA or GSM digital phone I've ever used.
