You will pay dearly (one way or another) for every new phone you get. If you are rich, more power to ya! If not, you will save a bundle by using your old phone until it falls apart!

I am on my 4th phone from NE2. I've been with VZW since 2000. I've yet to pay dearly, or at all, for any phone. All the phones were completely free after the rebate check. All the phones have had the usual features. The last two have had cameras and this one has V-Cast and all that jazz. I use my phone for making and receiving calls.

One way or another, you paid for that phone. Sometimes you pay up front and sometimes you pay X dollars per month for the duration of your contract. Bottom line is that you pay! TANSTAAFL! (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch)

As was explained to you, if you're staying with the carrier, and you get a phone where the price is $0, you are not paying any more money than you would otherwise pay.

Actually, it's very foolish to not get the new phone because the cost of the free phone is built into your monthly rate, and you're paying that cost whether you get the new phone or not. By not taking advantage of the free phone you're paying for something that you're not receiving.

Furthermore, even if you don't want the free phone, you actually could make money on the deal by selling the zero cost phone on craigslist or eBay.

Only if you don't plan to stay with the carrier for two more years does it make sense to not take the phone every two years.
