Alltel users can kiss their nice service good bye. No more
unlimited
internet for $10 or $25. No more Circle unlimited calls to any

No more excellent EVDO service, even way out in the boondocks of
the
Southeast USA. No more REGIONAL plans with lots of minutes for
people
who do not travel and never fly.
Wouldn't Verizon use the Alltel towers that provide the "excellent
EVDO
service..."?
I understand your rant about plan pricing, but I don't understand
how
Verizon would just give up the Alltel towers. Wouldn't the purchase
of
Alltel benefit Verizon users in areas where Alltel has towers and
VZW
has
none or no agreements?

No competition = big price increases. Bad for customers though good
for
How will Verizon and Alltel combining make no competition, are AT&T,
T-Mobile and Spring going away too?
Sprint (on its knees financially) and T-Mo (heavily subsidized by its
German
owner so they can maintain a presence in the US market) will be
acquired
within 12-18 months leaving only ATT and VZW.
Would you rather have two providers of the six or seven we had a few
years
ago? Which do you think is better, hmmmm?
Considering we never had more than 4 locally, with T-Mo and Sprint
being
very spotty and Cingular being just spotty, it hasn't made much
difference.
Yes it has. The fewer companies competing for your business, the higher
the prices and the lower the service, and when it's down to one, they
won't have to give a rats ass
Can they raise the price of your plan? I've been with verizon for
years(they have thebest coverage in the new orleans area) and when they
put together new plans with higher prices, mine always stayed the
same(without a contract). So unless you change your plan, you shouldn't
have a price hike.
For you-- and until next Thursday, probably no effect. Though with reduced
or little competition, they could force you to re-up or have the plug
pulled at the end of your contract. How do you like them apples, Laurie...
VZW is known for having the best network--- but offset by the highest
prices. least customer-friendly policies, fewest "gimmes" along with
crippled phones that force you to use their expensive services rather than
Do It Yourself....
I'd leave them in a heartbeat --- but they have the best service where I
live and travel. It's my choice though-- without competition, I lose
options and leverage....
