@trnddc02:
Can I use my E815 as a modem for going online with a palm TX? Both of
these devices have bluetooth.
Yes.....and no.....I had an E815, unhobbled, on Alltel and it DID pair
with my BT Nokia N800 Linux tablet. That's the yes.
I had a lot of unscheduled drops for no apparent reason, some of them
RESET the E815. The first E815 finally had had enough of me and my data,
so it erased ITSELF! When you turned it on, it said something about USB
Bootloader INIT, which is never good...(c; Alltel gave me another E815.
That E815 started life hating me, doing the same dropouts, reboots, but
never got so mad it destroyed itself before I'd had enough of IT! I
complained to the Alltel Data Tech department. The guy simply said, "The
E815's are all defective. There is a bug in the basic firmware burned
into the phone and you can't reflash that part." The defect was in the
chips used in the E815, not the flashable firmware. Because the phone is
obsolete, Motorola wasn't fixing them. "I'll note your problem and tell
the store you're under warranty and to give you a different phone that
works."
The local store tried to give me a Moto V3c, but it proved to have no BT
capability as DUN so that was going nowhere. The second phone was some
kind of Samsung, but it didn't have DUN in it. Fed up with my hanging
about and failing to get rid of me in a timely manner, the manager said,
"Give him the Z6m ROKR for the subsidized price. There's a $100 rebate
on now, so it will cost him $50 for a lot better phone than the E815."
She was right! 2M pixel camera, great little MP3 player and LOUD
speakers. I'm a happy camper.
So, be informed the E815's have a basic chip design flaw that will cause
many dropouts and break your heart....even self-destruct! SELLular
companies know about this defect, so when they quickstep and start the
Ali Rope-A-Dope "We never heard that before", be persistent. The ROKR
Z6m (Verizons is the Z6tv with everything all hobbled up to SELL you
Vcast) works flawlessly, even on 2 bars! My tablet does run the battery
dead with the loads of lots of data, constant data connect to EVDO and
Bluetooth (2 transceivers are more load than one). It must be charged
every day. I ran it so dead today, it turned itself off. The runtime on
the phone is 25% of the runtime on the Nokia N800 under Maemo Linux
OS2008 I just upgraded it to. I suppose a deep cycle boat battery and a
12V charging cord can cure that...(c;
When I boot up my account page, DATA USAGE always reads 99999 a couple
days after the billing period starts...(c; It's Skype's fault.....
