Out of the box, my phone (LG VX9900, not a PDA/Smartphone) allows me to connect to the 1x network when using DUN (although, its only 2x as fast as dialup) via bluetooth to my laptop."Xxxxx" <Not_gonna_give@xxxxxxx> wrote:"Dave Rudisill" <denali@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:nh1cj3pfc7lsplc1if1qvj9pojo77jo5tb@xxxxxxxxxxHmmm... Verizon technical support told me it wouldn't even work unless they enable the "BBA" option for that phone (that's the $15/month option). I tried it, and it wouldn't connect (the correct option was set on the phone)."Xxxxx" <Not_gonna_give@xxxxxxx> wrote:I don't.
As a phone connection using regular plan minutes should be possible to any
dialup number you can access with a regular phone. But, to use the phone
itself as a modem (particularly for NationalAccess or Broadband Access),
don't you have to pay Verizon a $15/month fee on top of your existing data
plan?
I also don't see how they could tell that I am using the PDA/phone as a
modem, tethered to our laptops, via either the charging cradle or
Bluetooth. We have been doing that for almost two years.
That said, I don't pretend to understand all the underlying technology,
so perhaps there is a way they can tell. They haven't said anything yet,
though.

All I can tell you is how I do it.
I use a piece of freeware (wModem) to connect my XV6600 PDA/phone to my
laptop using the USB cable that is on the charging cradle. I also use a
Bluetooth dongle in my laptop and my wife's laptop to connect, using
nothing more than DUN.
I used a program called QPST to change 1 internal setting on my phone and I can connect via EVDO and get 512kbps down/128kbps up.
Also, I got the unlimited (5GB actually) data plan (aka VCast), so I dont have to worry about them charging me $2/MB of data!
