Thinking about getting an Air Card and dropping the old landline
connection because of the amount of traveling we do. Know I'll have
to keep some kind of service for the email addresses etc. How do you
access these newsgroups when using an Air Card and direct connecting??
Thanks for any info provided.
Although it's done all over, accessing an NNTP server over VZW's crappy
Aircards is against their user agreement. The agreement, quoted under
this message because they make it so hard to find on their webpages, says
you may look at spam web pages, do email and connect to a company
intranet, if you have one, ONLY! All other uses are SPECIFICALLY
forbidden by the agreement. No uploading, downloading, streaming radio
or TV, and, obviously, no Skype or other VoIP to bypass Verizon's awful
charges.
"Unlimited", a nebulous term that means something TOTALLY different to
buyers/customer and company bureaucrats, means 5GB/month OR ELSE we cut
you off for a year and expect you to pay the termination fees. **it
happens.
Notice the curious statement that forbids you to use VZW's Broadband as a
replacement for traditional broadband internet service, at home for
instance. You're supposed to NOT use what you paid $60/month for any
place you can connect your laptop to wifi or Ethernet...or where you have
in the past.
It's all about kilobytes. Sellular used to sell data by the kilobyte and
has never gotten over people wanting gigabytes, much less megabytes.
I threw a wrench into the gears the other day. I'm a paying subscriber
to AT&T's MobiTV for PC broadband TV. (http://att.mobitv.com/) It says
I can download songs I buy that are legally acquired, but doesn't say I
can download TV signals I legally pay for. "Can I watch MobiTV on a
Verizon Aircard from a service I subscribe to?" Alltel didn't care as
long as I bought their $25/mo unlimited data link to my Moto E815
bluetooth phone I could connect the laptop to. Verizon wouldn't
answer....(c; I take that as a "NO!"

This aside, VZW's aircard does work great with MobiTV's broadband TV and
Skype on a laptop...(c; Hey! MobiTV's broadband runs in FIREFOX!
That's a BROWSER!
