XS11E,
I did look on the Verizon wireless site before posting and could not find the answers to these questions. Thus the post here asking for information from folks who have experienced adding texting to an existing plan.

I am 6 months into a 2 year Verizon plan. If I add the unlimited
texting plan option to my phone would this extend the contract
date?
What does the unlimited texting cost? Does it cover messages to a
non Verizon phone? If I add the plan before the end of my billing
cycle, will it be retroactive back to the beginning of the month?
I would like to have the answers to these questions before I call
so I can cut through some of the FUD.
I think most of the above questions can be answered on the Verizon website.
One thing I've done that's worked for me is to open the website, find what I want to do and then call with the webpage open in front of me.
It really helps to cut through the FUD when you can tell the person on the phone, "Look at your website, go to this page, scroll 1/2 way down, etc. Here's what I want to know..."
