I know there are several fulltime RV'ers in this group
and I wonder if any of you use mail forwarding services
based in Texas or South Dakota to establish you
"permanent address". The reason I ask is that the
"Taxes, Governmental Surcharges and Fees" that Verizon
passes along are based on your billing address. Just
curious what that amount would be if you billing address
is in a remote are of South Dakota. I'm not going to
have a permanent base so Verizon (they tell me) will use
the last address on record.

We have two Verizon cell phones. One has a California
number, so it is a local call for some relatives. The
other is an Oregon number, to avoid taxes. The Oregon
number has the data plan and is primary on the voice
plan. The California number is secondary on the voice
plan. The details:
California number: Verizon charges: $20.00. Taxes and
fees: $2.47. Oregon number: Verizon charges: $84.98.
Taxes and fee: $.80.
Our billing address is in Alaska. The billing address has
nothing to do with taxes and fees on a cell phone. They
are all determined by the "location" of the phone number.
Are you sure about that? Verizon Customer Service told me
taxes are based on your billing address. This makes sense
to me because if I move and keep the same number taxes
should not be based on where I used to live.
Our billing address is Alaska. All of the taxes and fees on
our two Verizon phones are federal, California, or Oregon.
There are no Alaska taxes, fees, or other charges on the
bills.
Here's the CA charges from my last bill:
CA State 911 Fee .11
CA State High Cost Fund (B) .40
CA Teleconnect Fund Surchg .03
CA State High Cost Fund (A) .04
Lifeline Surcharge - CA .26
CA Relay Srvc/Comm Device Fund .01
Sacramento City Uut 1.62
Total $2.47
For the Oregon number:
OR State 911 Surcharge .75
OR Telecom Relay Srvc Surchg .05
Total $.80
Both lines have "Fed Universal Service Charge" and
"Regulatory Charge" fees as well. Those total $.78 for the
Oregon line and $.82 fo the California line.
I don't know Dave. If I were you I would call Verizon and ask
why you are paying California and Oregon taxes when your home
(billing) address is in Alaska.
