I was online and selected upgrade my phone.....There was a list of phones
that I could select from and then below that was a list of phones I could
select from if I changed my calling plan.... the samsung sch-a870 was in the
latter group. My question is what is different about this phone that would
necessitate a calling plan with more minutes?

I am interested in upgrading to this phone, however online it says it
is only available if I upgrade my calling plan(which I am reluctant to
do). Anyone know why that is? I have a 400min, 500 txt/80pix for
39.99+7.99 a month and that txt/pix package is not offered anymore.
I'm not sure where you are or exactly you're doing online, but the online
upgrade process usually includes renewal of your existing plan, unless
maybe your plan is 15 years old. You may want to call CS.
