Re: (Still Waiting) I'm a Skyper

A clarification....

Verizon Wireless is simply a DBA - the corporate name IS Cellco Partnership.
Verizon Wireless, (DBA Cellco) certainly does own cell sites. One in the same...

There was a trend where carriers sold their sites to the various tower companies,
http://www.cellularphonenews.com/wirelesstower.htm
then leased them back - or leased when they needed to expand to cover an area
This did vary from area to area and carrier to carrier. Many, (inc VZW) still own theirs)

Cellco Partnership, which does business as Verizon Wireless, began operations
in 2000 when Bell Atlantic and Vodafone combined their US wireless assets, including
their PrimeCo partnership. It gained GTE's US wireless operations when Bell Atlantic
bought GTE to form Verizon Communications, which owns 55% of the company;
Vodafone owns 45%.

VZW doesn't have any cell sites. Go look at the FCC database where all
the licenses are held. VZW's cell connects are from a company called
Cellco Partners, LLC, here in Charleston, SC. Cellco Partners is the
license holder for the whole area around here, not VZW. I think this is
the reason your cellphone technician knows so little about the network
the phones connect to. VZW sells phones and time on Cellco Partner's
system, as far as we can tell, here. I have no idea who owns Cellco
Partners, LLC. Maybe VZW owns them...of course VZW is owned by Vodaphone
and GTE. Can you say "conglomerate" without cursing this time?...(c;
