If you get a Skype In local telephone number, and it doesn't have to be where your home is like cellular, you also get Skype voicemail for free, all for the princely sum of $38/YEAR. Now with Skype In, you get call forwarding. When I first got mine, I figured it forwarded calls from telephones to the Skype In number, but that proved to be not true. It also forwards Skype-to-Skype, computer to computer calls! I have my cellphone number as the forwarding number on Skype In, which forwards instantly if Skype isn't logged onto the system. So, if a friend from Hong Kong calls me on Skype-to-Skype, Skype forwards the call that should have gone to my computer Skype...to my cellphone so I don't miss the call. All this for $38/yr?...and they're making a profit?! How much profit is cellular and POTS companies making off each number?!!
How much infrastructure do you suppose skype has say compared to a cellco? I know VZW has over 300 cell sites just in my small market. They had to buy the spectrum that they use, aquire the sites, install the equipment, maintain it, link it together etc.
