Keeping the little companies going is the way big corporations protect
themselves from the laws. If you won in court against Exxon, it would hurt
them. But, you had to sue Mike's Oil and Stormdoor, LLC, the local Exxon
"company" so if you win too much, Mike just declares bankruptcy and the big
corp just opens up shop down the street and isn't hurt at all to speak of.
Makes good corporate senses.
