I have installed many of these cards on machines that use both
the VZW card for WLAN and good old wired RJ45 Ethernet.

Latest software. KCP 650 cards...

I have yet to have any of my (Ethernet) network connections disabled.

I'll ditto that. If the original network had some sort of security setup
to prevent Internet access (which I recall in the original post), that might
be part of the problem.
