Re: Verizon Aircard Software disables Ethernet port?

Hold the phone, bucko...

We are talking about two different things...
YOU are referring to ICS - which IS sharing.
I'm not. And I haven't been... And it isn't what Larry was asking about.
You are off on a tangent...

I'm ONLY talking about the co-existence of a VZW data card and it's
software and drivers on the same machine that also has Ethernet LAN
connections used for hard wired connection to a network. Installing VZW
software does NOT disable the network connections also on a machine.
If it did, no business would ever use the cards - IT would have a cow.

I and thousands of others use wireless when mobile - and we use Ethernet
when a good old RJ-45 is available. Plain and simple. Nothing hard here...

Nothing was said about sharing the wireless connection over a network...

Glad you (think) you know more than the verizon lawyers...
You may want to re-read your Terms Of Service........

From http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/promotion/controller?promotionType=miniPac&action=miniStart

Unlimited NationalAccess/BroadbandAccess:
Part of 2nd sentence:
Unlimited NationalAccess/BroadbandAccess services cannot be used ..<snip>., (2) with server devices or with host
computer applications, including, but not limited to.. <snip>,

Come to think of it, I make a very good living from other people being wrong.. Carry on.... :)

And just an FYI.....
I use the NEWEST version of the software available.
The one available "NOW"... not an 'older' version.

Trust me, if VZW or their software were disabling Ethernet
connections, there would be many people HOWLING!!
And, there simply isn't.

Enterprise customers would be up in arms - IT departments
would be out for blood. It would be a disaster for VZW in the
exact area they are aiming for - business. They aren't that dumb...

It is certainly possible that it was an installation error, but it
is also perfectly feasible that since he got a new card AND new
software, he may have the newer version that automatically disables
any network, so it can't be shared... Doesn't really matter what the
older stuff did, it is what the newer stuff they distribute NOW
does... Think of it as similar to say the e815, while Bluetooth DUN
and file transfer worked fine on the older ones, now with the newer
ones, some of the Bluetooth features have been disabled so you have
to pay to transfer ring tones and pictures, unless you do a seem
edit to re-enable what verizon took away.... Can't say for sure what it is in his case, just a maybe scenario I
ran across on another install... (Had to use the Kyocera kr1
wap/router to share an aircard over a network) Never say Never (or in this case nothing to do with).... :)

RNess wrote:
And...... Larry's problem has nothing to do with the card itself.
Somehow, something got changed by the wireless manager software
install - and even that is certainly not been proven.

Adding a machine back to a domain can tale an IT person and their
passwords, etc - not just "putting things back".

Maybe ICS is disabled, (I never use it, so...) but again I
state... I have installed many of these cards on machines that use both
the VZW card for WLAN and good old wired RJ45 Ethernet.

Me too and no issues. If they are truly permanently killing off
all other network connectivitity then Dewey, Cheatum and Howe is
going to get $13.9 Million real soon.

Latest software. KCP 650 cards...

I have yet to have any of my (Ethernet) network connections
disabled.

You are still using the KCP 650? That isn't even listed on the
verizon website or sold in their stores... Must be way old... (just
found it on a third party site, it is way old...)
