I'll say it again. If the echo problem was not such a huge problem I would

In the beginning I had the echo bad, but I only have it sometimes now,
possibly related to the speaker volume. Turning it down is not a totally
acceptable solution, however, as even at maximum it's still hard to hear
over road noise at anything over 40 MPH. Don't know what happened to clear
it up -- it hasn't had any software updates since I got it.

have kept it. And the week hinge was the next problem.
And with a case on it. might as well forget it staying open on it's own.

Do I have the only 815 in the world that doesn't have a weak hinge? Yes, I
can unintentionally break the tension and start to close it when I don't
want to, but not very easily and it doesn't take much effort to avoid this
problem. And even if it does happen, I can still feel it happening and stop
well before it reaches the snap-over point and closes itself. Furthermore,
the genuine Motorola leather case doesn't make any difference on this
issue. The case is actually less annoying on that score than the one for my
VX4400. In fact, the only problem I have with the case is that the flap
that connects the top to the bottom curls up in the way of the camera lens
and I have to hold it down if I want to take a picture.
