Yeah, I never really understood that when SS cards *used* to say the
number was not to be used for ID purposes.  But let's not let this
digress into a "how screwed up is the government?" thread.  I don't
think most ISPs have enough news server space for all the rants. :-)


My card has printed on it "NOT TO BE USED FOR IDENTIFICATION" in large red type. Some time ago I put a piece of tape over the first five digits and made a copy. When challenged by someone "who was just doing what they were told" I would give them the copy I made. Which after some discussion they would say "maybe we can "overlook" that".
