Actually the attws newsgroup is hardly defunct, as ATT lives, Cingular
is defunct.

ATTWS is defunct, absorbed into Cingular, which then morphed into AT&T
Mobility, for which there is no specific newsgroup.

The attws newsgroup gets more posts than the withering Cingular one
does.

True, albeit most of them noise from trolls and bashers.
