Hi!
I have an audiovox w/ cingular unlimited data plan for $19.99. Are
there any different with the cingular PDA data plan, as in term of the
speed? I'm asking this bcuz I'm planning to get a PDA phone. And as
your know PDA data plan cost twice as much as the regular data
plan...and I can't afford that. One more question, if i switch the gsm
card to the PDA phone, will Cingular know that i'm using a PDA phone on
a small phone's data plan?
I experience the same speeds with either plan, but really see a difference when using Bluetooth vs. data cable.
To reduce the number of variables, I used the same laptop and same phone, but swapped the SIM card with another user's card and tried it in different parts of the county.
Data cable gets between 30 Kbps to 120 Kbps, Bluetooth often stalled out and rarely over 40 Kbps.
Where I live is problematic, speeds often drop below dial-up speeds when I'm on the east side of the local tower and Bluetooth is unusable its so slow. That problem started about the time Cingular turned up a TDMA tower (yes, that what the technician told me - TDMA, but the tower wasn't data capable yet). The speed loss can happen in the middle of the night. so I doubt its a cell loading problem. The original tower is 3,500 feet from me and the new one is 2,200 feet. Both are in line of sight from my front porch. Signal levels look fine and no significant RF noise around between 8 MHz and 16 GHz when looked at with spectrum analyzer. I'll try out a corner reflector antenna to see if its that new tower causing the problems.
On a side note, there have been several users in this market that have had their data access cut off and had to upgrade to the PDA plan.
