Re: Porting a Number

Can I still do the porting at a store even if I buy the phone and service elsewhere, such as Amazon?

Yes, HOWEVER, be aware that if you are expecting any rebates from Amazon, then you should NOT port a number into that account until the rebate has been received. For some reason, Amazon has a strange quirk in that your mail-in rebates will invalidated if you change or port the phone number that your Cingular phone came activated with. If you port or change numbers before the rebate check is mailed, you WILL lose the rebate.

This appears to be a quirk exclusive only to when Amazon sells Cingular phones. Not sure why this is, but it is in the fine print for Amazon's Cingular rebates.
