Re: Cingular - another opinion

Well, I walked into a Cingular store that was expecting a Treo 650, in spite of the fact that my contract still had 4 months to go. I purchased the phone, outright, withour an extension on my contract or any other commitment. It can be done.

Buying a new phone without a service plan may very well seem like an expensive ordeal because the phones ARE expensive items. The companies treat them like give aways because they make their money back on the service plans. But, to get a phone without the plan you need to pay the REAL price or these companies WOULD most certain just go out of business. Then all our existing phones would be no good!

I have been reading many negative comments on this newsgroup, so thought it best to submit my opinion:

Their customer service on the telephone is the best I have experienced.

Their local store has many extras for my Nokia, and their staff is very courteous. In fact they had a stereo earphone adapter for only $3 which I could not locate by calling six independent stores.

The only thing I don't like about the store is that it can be busy and the wait long, but then what cell phone store doesn't have that difficulty? To resolve that, I do as in most other instances, telephone to see if they have what I want and at what cost, then go to the store.

The monthly cost of $40 is reasonable and a one-year contract is reasonable.
