The Obama administration is proposing to open vast expanses

The proposal -- a compromise that will please oil companies
and domestic drilling advocates but anger some residents of
affected states and many environmental organizations -- would
end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the
East Coast from the northern tip of Delaware to the central
coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean.

I'm waiting to see how the Faux News crowd can spin this one. Good move by Obama, both practically speaking and politically speaking. By November, the manufactured "outrage" over health care will be a distant memory. Energy independence, the end of the recession, bringing the country back from the brink of depression, the end of the Iraq war, and health care, will be Obama's legacy.

Personally, I hope the tea-baggers and the Faux entertainers like Beck and Hannity don't let up. They are doing Obama a big favor by completely marginalizing the Republican party, making Obama and the Democrats appear as the adults running the country, while the tea-baggers stand back and whine like spoiled children that aren't getting their way. Too bad that none of the old-school Republicans have the cojones to stand up to these wackos. The ones that have tried have quickly found themselves out of a job. As Mother Jones put it, "Too much thinking is frowned upon at conservative think tanks."
