I test drove a Honda Civic and a Corolla today.
Despite my bias against the Toyota due to recent problems the Corolla
as a car impressed me much more and was cheaper.
I've heard people say that the parts and techniques faulted with
Toyota are used by other car companies. I've also heard that other
car companies have had acceleration problems and that the US highway
department considered all of them statistically insignificant.
So, I am wondering if it is safe to buy a Corolla.
Does anyone know where I read these statistics and facts for myself?
Thanks
Steve
The Corolla problem, if there is one, is with the Electric Steering Assist.
The steering feel is not quite right, and some drivers have reported the car
veering left or right on it's own.
I am not saying the reports are right, I'm only saying what they are. Do
your homework.
That is what I am trying to do.
I was impressed with my Corolla test drive yesterday, but I am spooked
by the news of the last few months. I've heard people say that
reports of problems with Toyota's are statistically insignificant and
far less than other car manufacturers.
Yet I haven't found any articles with the sources of those numbers.
If I could find government stats( citations, pages, paragraph
numbers ) that would say something like Toyota's had 5 problems out
of 1000, other car companies had 4 problems out of a 1000.......I
might feel reassured.
Haven't found any articles on the web yet that point to government
regulatory numbers in a way that I could go look them up.
