Actually Reagan did serve in the military, but his job was narrating
military training films, which did that at a Hollywood studio, and he
was able to go home every night. So in his autobiography, Where's The
Rest Of Me, it was strange for him to write that he was glad the war
was over so he could see his wife again. OTOH Reagan had volunteered
to serve in combat but was rejected because of his poor eyesight. And
President Reagan with Alzheimer's was still smarter than GW Bush ever
was at his most sober.
