But, but but, the wind and sun is FREE, why does it cost more?
The "Environuts" have taken control of the government and all of us
"Environmentalists" must pay the price, again.
You are being duped it you believe Cap and Trade will not cost you MUCH
more.
Every manufacture that uses electricity will pay more for power because 52%
of the electricity produce in the US is generate from coal powered steam.
We saw the EPA sent a lot of American jobs out of the country, wait to see
what happens if Cap and Trade is passed, manufacturing will flee the county
in droves. Why make anything in the US when you can make if off shore for
less?
After all American consumers today no longer care that their buying habits
are sending the jobs of their children and grand children off shore, they
buy cheaper imports anyway.

Just got an email about next years bills
2010 bills will be lower
Thanks to our investments in fuel efficiency as well as lower
fuel
prices, we expect a typical 1,000 kilowatt-hour customer bill
to go
down by about $9 a month ? or approximately $100 a year ? if
approved
by the Public Service Commission. This estimate includes the
impact of
our pending request for a base rate adjustment, lower
projected fuel
prices for 2009-2010 and improvements in fuel efficiency at
our power
plants. At the same time, we'll continue to invest in making
the
electrical infrastructure stronger, smarter, cleaner, more
efficient
and less reliant on any single source of fuel. While we can't
control
the price of fuel, we work diligently to reduce the overall
amount of
fuel our power plants use ? and we pass those savings directly
to you.
Of course, your bill varies based on how much energy you use
each
month so it's always wise to conserve.
How is your utility doing????
Just think what ALL our bills would be doing if we went
nuke...
Be sure to send a thank you note to Obama.
Why's that?
Please explain so I can write a letter to Governor Rendell here in
Pennsylvania and ask him what he's doing.
Why is Gov. Rendell responsible for electric bills?
Did I say he was "responsible?"
First off it was sarcasm. Second, did you read the added information I
put in another reply explaining PA's situation? I was wondering what
Florida is doing that we are not. I mean if you want to legitamely
know
for the sake of civil discussion than I will be happy to explain, but
if
its just another ping pong act here than I'll opt out.
I just looked through the thread and didn't see it. I am very
interested in this. Having lived in Philly, where the electric rates
are high and northeast PA, where they are lower, and in Lansing MI,
where the rates were lower (it was a public utility) and now in NJ
with higher rates, I do wonder what Lansing, the FL utility and PPL do
well and why other utilities in Philly and where I live do less well.
Jeff
I live in Northeast PA & the rates are far from cheap, with the expected
increase it will only get worse. There is this generational gap deal
that is causing this. From my understanding the rates were frozen for
quite some time & those rates will expire soon, hence the increase.
I guess you have PPL. As far as I can tell, they are a pretty well-run
utility. Same utility as my dad has.
Apparently, beginning in 2010, they will offer an option where if you
use more energy during off-peak times (like after 8:00 PM), you will
save money. So that means that if you put your electric hot water
heater and electric heat on timers, do laundry and dishes in the
morning or at night, and make other adjustments, you will save money.
I have never said it was Rendells fault, but gov reps do help in trying
to deter these type of situations with other alternatives, I am curious
as to what they have laid out, I haven't really seen anything yet & know
its not a "future" Obama administration plan but a current issue so I am
not blaming them. What scares me is the same situation happening that
the credit card companies are doing before legislation passes, hurry up
& pass the increases on before legislation passes.
This is harder to do with utilities, because the Public Untility
Commission won't allow for this.
Capping emmisions is
also scary because not only will this increase go into effect so will an
increase if cap goes into effect, the charges will be passed on to
consumers, so in essence we here will get a double whammy on price
increase.
Except that if a lot of the energy is green energy, this won't happen.
One thing I do is select to pay extra for green energy. Of course, I
am using the power as everyone else. But, my electric company gets
some its energy from the pwer generator I choose. So, in theory, it's
the same as if all the energy I used comes from green energy. In
reality, I think it helps, but, not as much as on would think.
When the cap and trade system comes online, it won't affect utilities
that much, because they will get a lot of free credits. However, it
wouldn't surprise me if they still increased their rates, in effect,
giving them free credits, not us. And they effectively sell the free
credits back to us.
