Remember when I told you about my friend from college? He's one of the
main writers of the documentation. They have found that a LOT of people
exposed to CP carry out acts against children. Some don't; as you or Sharx
eluded to, they are happy with their 'collections of fine art', but some
of the more nefarious start going after kids. Sometimes with horrible
conclusions.

Yeah, and you also mentioned that you had 3 years of Psychology.
Didn't you learn in any of those courses what kind of experiment would
need to be conducted to conclude that "lots of perpretrators would not
have
actively sought their victims if they had not seen images".

Is about 500 good enough?
All the others would have done it, pictures or not.

And, he writes his documentation for the state. I don't know if it's
published. Not all of it, anyway.

He also help deveop the guidlines for Civil Committment.

Hachi,

Please read this again and respond to it:

"Is about 500 good enough?" is not a response to the above.

Respond to the above, please.

Describe what an experiment would look like (ask your friend?) that
could POSSIBLY conclude that ""lots of perpretrators would not have
actively sought their victims if they had not seen images".

He has interviewed thousands of SOs, and says a lot of them say they would
not have thought of committing such a crime if they had not seen the
images.

I see a couple problems with that, but before I mention them I'll say
that's *interesting*.

1- I didn't have 3 years of psych, but I did take a course in social
psychology. The professor and the text discussed many experiments,
and apparently it was accepted in the field, that people are very very
bad at figuring out why they do things. When *asked* why, we report
what we think *must* have caused us to do it. And we insist that a
factor that the experimenter KNOWS was a factor, was NOT a factor.

This could very easily explain why they'd cite the pictures as a
reason for their behavior.

2- above and beyond that, people tend to blame external sources when
they do something bad (and cite internal ones when they do something
good.) (" *I* got an A", but "*the teacher* gave me an F")

This could again very easily explain why they'd cite the pictures as a
reason for their behavior.

Of course, ANOTHER reason that could explain why they'd cite the
pictures as a reason for their behavior is that is WAS a reason for
the behavior.

The problem is that we don't know which it was, or if it was both, or
neither.

I don't think you can conduct such experiments.

Correct, you cannot.

You may be able to, but
who would want to?

To be able to determine whether the pictures caused an increase in the
likelyhood that these people would commit a crime against a child.
You need a controlled experiment to conclude that, and such an
experiment would be unethical.

(BTW if you're curious why I know about the ethical stuff, I was the
"community member" (non-academic member) of the Institutional Review
Board for a college in the town I used to live in...plus it's just
common sense :) )
