Who gives a ***? For most of us, gasoline is a minor budget item.
This is another interesting phenomenon.
When shopping for a lawnmower for example, nearly everyone would
consider price when making the purchase.
As a budget item, lawnmowers are minute compared to gasoline. And
yet, when it comes to a lawnmower (or TV, couch, you name it) people
will look for bargains, compare prices, be proud of a good deal they
were able to get, and so on. But then when it comes to gas, which is
a MUCH larger budget item, a people say "Who gives a ***"? "Why
would you care about how much you spend on gas?"
On that same note, people are very vigilant about the price of a
gallon (getting pissed when the price goes up- knowing which station
is the cheapest, etc.), and yet don't try to improve their mileage,
which effectively lowers the price they pay per gallon.
By the way, this is not meant to be some political statement.
Anyone familiar with this thread will understand why I said that!
(Did someone actually blame Obama for the morons who block the left
lane?)
I definitely buy gas, in Edmonton, at Superstore which sells it with a 7.5 cent a litre discount, redeemable in the grocery store. Their gas comes from the Imperial ESSO refinery here in Edmonton which is also blessed with a Shell and Petrocan refineries. That been said, I don't waste time leaving stop signs or red lights. I accelerate firmly, without squealing the tires. I come to a moderate stop, NOT coasting for a mile, at red lights. I plan my routes to avoid traffic congestion as much as possible, combining as many chores as possible in as short a route as possible. THAT been said, I do sometimes go the LONGER way when on vacation or if it is more scenic, with less traffic.
