The CIC won't even protect OUR ships at sea.

Just think about how safe you feel now with Bambi in charge...

I gotta give it to the Bamster on this one.

Because he gave permission to the Navy for rescue operations?
Perhaps
he borrowed someone's balls to make the obviously-needed happen.

He pulled Steven Segal out of retirement and offed a boat load
of
pirates, and got our guy back.

"He" did nothing.

Well, nobody expects him to put on a SEAL suit and pull off the
rescue
by himself, or with a team of guys to help. His job is to call out
the
right guys for the job, and he called the seals instead of letting
the
insurance company pay the ransom.

I seriously doubt that he even did that himself without a aide
putting
his or her wet finger to the wind.

Oh, I'm sure you're right.

I think the public sentiment is, blast those f---ing pirates and be
done
with them.

For his part, GWB allowed the ransoms to be paid, but he never had
to
deal
with an American vessel being hijacked, so he had very little to say
on
the matter. The willingness of the shipping companies to pay the
ransom
does nothing except fuel more hijackings.

I'm sure that the pirates probably steered clear of American vessels
while
Bush was around because they expected him to not take the news very
well.
They thought that Obama would let them slide, so they took the
chance.

Obama manned up. I gotta give him credit where credit is due. If it
took
an advisor ot two to get him clued in, so be it. At the end of the
day,
he
did what I woulda done, gone in hot and heavy.

Likewise. However, hopefully plans are being devised to send ALL the
other
pirates to an early, violent death, whether they be on land or water.
Ditto
for ALL their supporters, ANYWHERE.

I don't wish a violent death to anyone. However, I would like to see
the unrest in Somalia ended. That would help millions of people and
get to the root of the problem. I also hope Obama continues to send
the message, in words and deeds, that pirating will not be tolerated.

Jeff

<JS>
Without regard to any unrest anywhere in the world, piracy on the high
seas
must be stopped. If that means a violent end of life to some poor
schmuck
that made a bad career move, then so be it.

The problem is that the unrest in Somalia is contributing to the
piracy. So you deal with the unrest in Somalia, and then there piracy
goes down.

Who foots the bill for fixing the unrest? Will it once again be the
United States helping to "fix" the problem of other countries?
================

Maybe, unless we can afford to keep a few Navy ships off their coast forever
to protect shipping. Considering that a significant chunk of pirates' ransom
money is being funneled to Islamic lunatics, we may have an interest in
stopping it. Know what I mean?

I hear ya, but I wonder if that Islamic connection is a true one? They
say the pirates are not terrorists though just criminals so I don't know
what to believe anymore.

It's pretty easy to tell in this case. Neither the lunatics nor the
government have control. Those that get the money from ransom build expensive
houses along the coast. Terrorists would have done something ELSE with the
money.

There's no evidence that the terrorists have any control over the pirates.
They have nothing the pirates need or want. The pirates want money. The
pirates have no reason to give any of what they get to the terrorists because
the terrorists have nothing to give.

But that won't stop the neocons from labeling anyone a terrorist or "an
Islamic". Even you. WTF? Not all terrorists are Islamic and not all
Islamics are terrorists. Or by saying "Islamic connection" that at least the
pirates go to church?

Ummmm excuse me.......First off I'm not a neocon so stop labeling me
like your buddy Barney Frank. Second, I NEVER said they were terrorists
I question it just as you have described in your response. Where did I
say they were terrorists? Please learn to read what I wrote, I question
the terrorist claim part myself, what part of that did you need see in
my statement?
