Works great in the summer also to precool the car on those hot days. And you can start it and lock the doors with no key in the ignition so you go pay for your gas or get some groceries and the car says warm. Also fun to start it when someone is walking by or getting a parking ticket and the car starts with no one in it.

Retired VIP wrote:Thanks guys. It looks like I've got a lot more research to do. FromWe have a 2006 Corolla that my wife drives most of the time. SheHere ya go,
wants to put remote start on it. The ignition key has a chip embedded
in it that enables the starter circuit (the starter won't crank unless
it communicates with the right chip). Is this anti-theft feature
disabled when a remote starter is installed?
Please don't point out the obvious, like the steering wheel is still
locked or the transmission selector is locked.

If you can't find the answer call them. I've had a bulldog system
for 5 or 6 years. Works just fine. I just started the Toyota from
inside the house. 12.8 degrees out there and that's what it's for!

a quick read of the Bull Dog Security site, it looks like I'd have to
purchase the security module and a key to defeat the anti-theft
starter disable.
Anyway, more reading ahead.
Thanks guys

In my experience looking at new Toyotas with intermittent no-start conditions, almost all of them had aftermarket security or remote start systems installed that were causing the problem. If you opt for one, get one with a plug-in harness instead of one where you have to cut or tap the factory harness.
I'm going to try to talk her out of getting one. I've never had a
problem going out to the car and starting it up manually, I don't see
why she can't. Shhhhhh....don't tell her I said that!
Having to unplug the unit and putting things back normal would be a
hassle and I'm not sure she could handle it. She seems to have
problems turning on a light sometimes.
They are just real handy.
One thing is to try and remember to set the vent on inside air so it doesn't suck in the start up exhaust gases when the car starts and runs, that stinks. Also gotta remember to leave the heater fan on and the temp on hot.
Everyone ought to have a remote start, and after starting a GPS, MP3player, XM/sirrus, cell phone, rear view camera, happy meal from McDonalds, phase array antenna for the satellite TV in the car, a wireless internet in the car,.... keeps you awake and alert while driving.
