Just a small glitch according to senator reid, LOL. That wouldn't have
been the case had it been a Bush appointee.
"WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama's choice to run the
Treasury Department and lead the economic rescue effort disclosed to
senators Tuesday that he failed to pay $34,000 in taxes from 2001 to
2004, a last-minute complication in an otherwise smooth path to
confirmation."
The alarming thing about this story is the amount of the taxes he failed to pay.
I too am a 1099 employee, or have been. I am now fully self employed and simply bill out my hours. I occasionally have customers that don't understand what they know, and they want to 1099 me. It's easier to get the 1099 than to argue that I should not be paid that way. In any case, Geithner worked as a consultant, and he was paid under the 1099 rules, just as I am paid. He earned far more than I did in any one year than I earned in the 4 years that he did not pay taxes on his earnings under the 1099 rules -- I don't know that he did or did not pay other taxes that he may have been liable for.
I paid more than 34k during those four years (8500 for each of 4 years) and I made a fraction of what he was making. Something stinks here.
