I just don't understand why JoeSpareBedroom loves terrorists so much.

What a simpleminded piece of trash you are. Can you not see that when
your government decides to suspend the Constitution for citizens, you
will make up an excuse to feel fine about it?

Which citizens has the Constitution been suspended for? None of the
people in this discussion is a citizen of the United States.

I'll concede the point that Jose Padilla is a citizen, and his case is
troubling, so you don't need to dwell on that one. Name another citizen.

How many more would you need to hear about before you'd think it was
becoming a major problem? Gimme a number.

One or two. I'm easy.

The Padilla case is alarming, I completely agree with that. But, when we
pick up combatants on the battle field where the battle is actively being
waged and we pick up a citizen on the streets of Chicago, and hold them in
the same conditions, then we have a potential Constitutional crisis on our
hands.

I have absolutely no problem with the detention of combatants picked up on
the battle field. I have no problem and no reservation. Grab them and hold
them as long as you want. As a practical matter, the small number of
military detainees is not a problem for the Constitution at all.

Now, throw in the case of Jose Padilla, and we have big problems. This
particular case is not problematic on its own, but it means that you and I
can be grabbed off the streets of our home town or any town for that
matter and held without charge, and the problems become obvious.

So, other than Jose Padilla, name any other citizen who's Constitutional
rights have been violated.

The bleeding hearts for the Gitmo detainees simply do not sway me.

I'm talking only about citizens. Stop mentioning Gitmo or fighters in Iraq.

Question: Would you consider a hand grenade to be a WMD? If not, why not?
There's a good reason I'm asking. Go along with it for a moment.
