Thanks for the list, Jeff. Quite fascinating. Sure
there are a bunch of feel-good bills, mostly near
the top, but there are a lot of substantive bills as
well. Quite a few dealing with veterans,
transparency in government, energy independence, etc.
Looks to me like he's been pretty busy over the last
few years.
It appears that one of his favorite amendments is to
make sure that companies receiving large federal
contracts aren't tax deadbeats. I noticed a few of
those in the list. Seems reasonable.
Anyway, here are a few of the more interesting bills
that I've extracted from of the list:
13. S.115 : A bill to suspend royalty relief, to repeal certain provisions of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, and to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal certain tax incentives for the oil and gas industry.
Yep, I like that one too.
15. S.117 : A bill to amend titles 10 and 38, United States Code, to improve benefits and services for members of the Armed Forces, veterans of the Global War on Terrorism, and other veterans, to require reports on the effects of the Global War on Terrorism, and for other purposes.
I like this one too, but I worry that a guy that serves for one year and a guy that serves 20 will get the same benefit. This would cost the lifer, and we need more lifers.
16. S.133 : A bill to promote the national security and stability of the economy of the United States by reducing the dependence of the United States on oil through the use of alternative fuels and new technology, and for other purposes.
This is a feel good. We need to do this stuff, no doubt about it, but Obama's timing is directly related to the price of gas blowing past $4.00 at the pump.
18. S.453 : A bill to prohibit deceptive practices in Federal elections.
19. S.674 : A bill to require accountability and enhanced congressional oversight for personnel performing private security functions under Federal contracts, and for other purposes.
20. S.692 : A bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to establish a Hospital Quality Report Card Initiative to report on health care quality in Veterans Affairs hospitals.
21. S.713 : A bill to ensure dignity in care for members of the Armed Forces recovering from injuries.
22. S.737 : A bill to amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 in order to measure, compare, and improve the quality of voter access to polls and voter services in the administration of Federal elections in the States.
23. S.767 : A bill to increase fuel economy standards for automobiles and for other purposes.
26. S.823 : A bill to amend the Public Health Service Act with respect to facilitating the development of microbicides for preventing transmission of HIV/AIDS and other diseases, and for other purposes.
27. S.906 : A bill to prohibit the sale, distribution, transfer, and export of elemental mercury, and for other purposes.
28. S.976 : A bill to secure the promise of personalized medicine for all Americans by expanding and accelerating genomics research and initiatives to improve the accuracy of disease diagnosis, increase the safety of drugs, and identify novel treatments.
29. S.1067 : A bill to require Federal agencies to support health impact assessments and take other actions to improve health and the environmental quality of communities, and for other purposes.

33. S.1181 : A bill to amend the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 to provide shareholders with an advisory vote on executive compensation.
34. S.1222 : A bill to stop mortgage transactions which operate to promote fraud, risk, abuse, and under-development, and for other purposes.
35. S.1271 : A bill to provide for a comprehensive national research effort on the physical and mental health and other readjustment needs of the members of the Armed Forces and veterans who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and their families.
